Great info Sean, thankyou - is it still true (or has it ever been true) that you shouldn't store lead acid batteries on concrete floors? I always stored mine off the ground (even on a piece of 2x4 if I didn't have a shelf) but someone told me recently that you don't have to do that anymore. Would be great to hear the answer from the horse's mouth!
Concrete floors are fine - so long as the storage temperatures sit within the recommended range, and the battery is not sitting in direct sunlight. We're not sure where that misconception originated from!
@@CenturyYuasaAus thanks heaps for the response! That's good to know. I won't worry about finding bits of wood anymore!
thank You For Sharing ❤
You can select out of vehicle. The only differences just test the battery directly without going through the alternator and starter steps.
Thanks sean just bought one and this video was perfect, vid taught me everything I needed to know. Was good to see a familiar face from motoringbox
Appalling sound
What tips?
Its good to c we still make batterys by someone a job

Please help me jobs I’m from I’m 7 years work experience but I’m live in Saudi Arabia
I have a discharged failed AGM battery that was sitting on the shelf for a couple of years because I keep forgetting to take it in to be recycled and it dried out, cracked itself open like an egg and spilled its white powdery innards out the bottom.
thanks!
I'm an Interstate Battery manager and i understand you point. I offend tell people that your battery could potentially last longer if ypu buy a more expensive battery. I dont make any money for making a more expensive susgestion.
That's funny, my "4x4" as you put it, sees much harsher roads and vibrations than my boat, which floats on cushy water, will ever see. So that doesn't make any sense. And I keep hearing that a "marine" battery not only starts the engine, but then has to "run onboard accessories." You mean like a car does? Aren't there "onboard" accessories in a car that are used after starting? Of course there is! And the engine ALTERNATOR powers those things, just like on a boat! The only agreeable content here, is the fact that deep cycle batteries hold a charge longer, enabling them to power something WHEN THE ENGINE ALTERNATOR ISNT RUNNING. Don't feel bad, 90% of the videos about boat vs car batteries are unclear like this one. Bottom line: boat batteries hold a charge longer, for running, say, a depth finder, or trolling motor, when the boat's engine alternator isn't running. Otherwise, the alternator powers things when running, just like a car.
Can this be use under bonnet?
Even thi the batteries are Australian made Is Century Batteries an Australian owned company?
Thanks guys good info Love the nz accent 😳
It is wonderful to see someone who can put 20 minutes worth of information into just a few moments of video time.
Do you need to ground the negative when charging with the battery installed to prevent risk?
Some battery chargers don't have that requirement. I'm guessing older or perharps cheaper batt chargers do. Go by what the literature that came with the batt charger says.
Im confused is the marine pro 680 an agm battery or an old school flood battery? Please dear god just answer the question

I have the 1212XLI charger, which is 1-8-12 amp charger. My batter is 640cca (64AH), is 8 amp safe to use, and is slightly over 10%?
Yes.. use 8
how are you supposed to not overcharge them if its connected to an alternator
Normally, you can't overcharge them if they're connected to an alternator. But they can still overheat and have the same problem. Or if they had a faulty, cracked, or damaged cell to begin with, I suppose you COULD overcharge it with an alternator because the remaining cells won't be able to hit 12V combined and instead will just burn off all their fluid and bulge trying to take more voltage than they can handle.. In any case, always check a battery to make sure it's at least 12V resting voltage without any charger plugged into it before putting it in a car. If it's 10V disconnected resting voltage, it might have a bad cell and take it back to the store! A battery with a bad cell will never hit 12V resting voltage without bulging, boiling or venting.
I will like to be one of you guys
I want to know it more
here in UK the higher CCA the better
It is.
Please give Sean a payrise. I love his content.
Haha, he sold out, the battery quality is so poor now and I did a video about it so I guess no sponsorship for telling the truth. 🤣🤣Just check out forum and online reviews.
I dispute the argument that Lithium ion phosphate batteries are better, firstly most Chinese lithium ion phosphate batteries have about 40% less amp hour reserve in their cells than they actually are stated to have, so a 100 amp hour Chinese made lithium ion phosphate battery that claims to be a 100 amp hour battery is most probably only 55-60 amp hour, and the last 10 amp hours are not generally usable since appliances such as refrigerators need constant 14-12 volts minimum just to run the last 10 amp hours won't be at 12 volts so your fridge won't run. And another big problem that places such as Adventure Kings WILL NEVER TELL you is that high amp/wattage draw appliances such as electric stoves toasters hair dryers that run on pure sine wave inverters say between 1500-3000 watts should never ever be powered by lithium ion batteries since they are not designed to be rapidly discharged, rapidly discharging and recharging a lithium ion battery will dramatically shorten their lives. In fact AGM deep cycle lead acid floated batteries have no issues with this, a well maintained AGM battery can last more than 10 years, providing you have the maximum amount of watts for the solar controller charge. Another problem with lithium ion batteries is the fact that they can explode injuring or even killing you and your children, the issue is the unstable and unpredictable nature of lithium and although lithium ion phosphate chemistry is better than the older versions of lithium ion batteries, make no mistake you run a risk that many academics with a masters degree in chemistry will tell you is unacceptable. Lithium ion batteries are also very expensive given that very good AGM batteries that can go for more than 2000 cycles for just $200 are out there albeit they are much heavier and usually larger than lithium ion phosphate batteries. And last but not least sodium ion batteries are now slowly coming online, they will.make lithium ion batteries defunct, firstly they are much cheaper to manufacture and easier to ship as they are Innert and inheritantly safe, the pose no risk whatsoever and they will be cheap. The choice is yours. Do your homework, if you go for lithium make sure that it is from a reputable company that certifies its storage amps and performance.
I tend to agree with you. Also, the industry is pushing this agenda to hard to make more money, AGM batteries can be discharged to completion multiple times and will happily power fridges, laptops, phones and chargers. In fact, there is just about a 12v power solution for just about anything. People forget it's not the amount of ah and batteries you have it's how fast you can charge that's important. With the correct solar and dc charger, an AMG can provide power indefinatly. Most importantly AMGs are very much safer than the alternative. Save your money and spend it on more regular trips and experiences rather than all the stuff, after all camping and overlanding is supposed to be fun, in a minimalist fashion, leave the microwave and hairdries at home, just my opinion.
Can I use this to also jumpstart my car? Obviously with the battery still in the car connected to the charger can I start the car?
Not as a jumpstarter no. But depending on the condition of the battery, you may be able to leave it on charge for a length of time (an hour or so) and it may bring the battery back enough to start the vehicle. Obviously this depends entirely on the battery condition, so if it is due for replacement it won't hold its charge very long.
@@CenturyYuasaAus thanks, appreciate the reply. Cheers
These sound good Just looked on your web site but could not see if these are rated for under bonnet use as a secondary battery to run as deep cycle for fridge and camping power. Hooked up via Redarc BCDC1225D
How much less does it cost than an AGM or Gel battery?
That'll depend on what size battery you're after, but it would be worth checking websites of local battery retailers and comparing the difference.
Century Ultra Hi Performance 4WD Battery NS70LX MF can this battery be used to run a 12v fridge for a night of camping?
We don't recommend using starting batteries for Deep Cycle purposes - they're not designed for it and may be damaged as a result. We'd recommend looking at the Century Dual Force+ range, or a secondary Deep Cycle battery.
What you are saying is that the feature being promoted for this battery (deep cycling) doesn't actually work! How does this make sense?@@CenturyYuasaAus
I have just bought one of these for this very purpose. So I'll know soon enough. I have a Bushman fridge which has a low average current draw of only 0.67A/hr. I reckon it will easily run for a couple of days without charging the battery. I'll post back to here after some experience.
What about CCA
Lithium Pro isn't designed for starting/cranking use.
Can these batteries be used in boats
Absolutely - for Deep Cycle purposes (no engine cranking).
The calcium light and the 12amp light flash together. What does this mean please.
That suggests there is no battery connected to the charger.
Can I use these as a starter battery?
Sorry no - Deep Cycle usage only.
Is my battery connected with UPS is leaking for the same reason? Its not a dry battery. Yesterday I top up the water in it and today water is coming out from the hole of caps. Why??
In real life, you don't get 300x"100Ah" cycles with %100discharge. The rated capacity drops drastically after a few full discharges and the damage is permanent. The mathematics isn't simple as it's in this video. So, don't discharge more than %50 unless it's an emergency.

Here because of Sean and a long time user of Century 👍
This bloke is a natural. He should start his own UA-cam channel.
great review just a couple of quetions i have a new century( 780 RRO) what should it say fully charged safely *** can i fully charge my spare its reading 11.4 ty ( SYDNEY AUSTRALIA )
Fully charged is around 12.7 volts. 12.0v is considered fully flat and a point where batteries start receiving permanent damage, so get your spare recharged asap!
What type of lead acid is the marine pro680? Flooded, gel or AGM?
It's a flooded.
My battery leaked while overcharging. Can i still use it or do I need a new one?
It'll depend how much acid leaked out of it - which can be tricky to ascertain on modern sealed batteries.
What battery charging profile is best - gel, AGM, wet, cal? There is nothing in the vid or website specs that provide this information.
GEL and AGM are for Deep Cycle battery types bearing the same name, Flooded is for any maintainable lead-acid battery (it'll have 6x vent caps on the top) and Calcium is the one you want for regular car starting batteries that are Maintenance Free (no vent caps). Hope this helps!
@Century Batteries - again, which one is best for the centry marine pro?
Im having the same problem its like they are trying to avoid the question......
@@chrisderksema5616 Marine Pro will need the Calcium setting.
Uhm, wait a minute. There are plenty of cases where a deep cycle battery is being used in a vehicle, from pick-up trucks, wreckers, RV's, Tractor/Trailers etc. They last for years in those conditions. Heck, we used them to run a winch on a trailer, and that battery would be either mounted in the bed of the truck or on the tongue of the trailer. Again, lasted for years. Also have used them in a Jeep and other off road rigs to run winches and accessories and even starting the vehicles. This just sounds like you are trying to sell more batteries.
Is it safe to use an oversized marine battery on Ford explorer
@@vincentrocha-pe5eg What do you mean by "oversized"? Is it physically larger or a rectangle instead of square, or are you referring to the cranking/cold cranking amps?
@@jmackinjersey1I think he means both, once the diamoantion of the battery increased, the cold cca also increased
Yeah I don't know why so many "experts" complicate this and make it sound as if marine batteries are an entirely different species from car batteries. Deep cycle marine batteries just HOLD MORE CHARGE, period. It isn't rocket science. Some claim you need a completely different charging system for deep cycle. Though it's true some cheap chargers may not get the deep cycle to full capacity, it still works. The concept is the same. Both hold a charge. Both are built with the same principles. The deep cycle has more plates (for more energy storage) and is heavier. That's it. Both will start an engine. Both can and are used interchangeably (if you can fit the obviously bigger deep cycle in). Both can run things after it's charging system (engine alternator) is turned off for a period of time before discharging. The deep cycle just does it longer. Not complicated at all.
Been using car batteries on my boat last 10 yrs, no issues and I fish offshore where water get rough.
What percentage of the Century battery range are made in Australia? Ie. 20%, 50%, 80% made in Australia? 🤷🏽♂️
Batteries is not a human being. If it is properly design and high quality material, it would not make a bit of difference on the operating condition since both auto and marine can be hot/cold or have lots of vibration. When you talk about deep cycle vs dual, that’s a different story. A design usage story.
A little expensive.
